If you want to scar a woman
for the rest of her life,
if you want to seat yourself
upon a throne of lies
that you yourself constructed,

that you are more than some
frightened, delusional boy
and this woman is somehow
more, some sort of faerie-thing
that you have bound to flesh,

make her your muse.

If you truly love her,
you would do better
to stab her with a knife
or,
even better,

keep her smile and her tears
many miles from the page.
